Dr Patterson graduated in 1983. Following completion of his training in Ireland, he furthered his studies in the United States working at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Stanford University School of Medicine.
Following his return to Ireland, Dr Patterson worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Mater Hospital in Dublin from 1994-1995.
He subsequently took up position at University Hospital Waterford as Consultant Anaesthetist and Director of Pain Medicine from 1995 to 2007.
Dr Patterson is currently the Director of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at UPMC Whitfield Hospital since 2007.
Dr Patterson specialises in the management of pain related disorders. Particular areas of interest include complex back, leg, facial and musculo-skeletal pain, as well as complex regional pain syndrome, and pain related neuropathies.
